Today, we are going to be talking about drinking green smoothies. I made this video to answer a lot of emails that have come and saying:
“Your magic green smoothies, what do you put in your green drink smoothies?”
The bottom-line purpose of this advice is to use green drink smoothies for fast and long-lasting energy.
The number one mistake I see people make when they are looking to get more energy is they put stuff in their body that does a quick fix, but does not keep them SUSTAINED.
So when you put in your body soft drinks, Red Bulls, B12 vitamin compounds, and all those things, they can definitely give you a BURST of energy.
BUT, the real cause of the lack of energy in the first place is a lack of your fundamental nutrition and probably a lack of sleep.
So, if you are getting enough sleep but you are finding yourself low energy and needing to depend on caffeine or energy boosters to get more energy, a green drink smoothie will be an AWESOME way to get fast energy. It’s filled with SO much nutrition and it makes it SO easy to get a lot of nutrition early in the day.
Green Drinks! – Fruits – Veggies – Nuts – Seeds – Super Food
What I want to share with you today is how I make my typical green drink. There are a MILLION recipes out there. There are a million things you can do. But, this is the one that I typically make.
It breaks down into a couple of core components or food groups. You have fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, and super foods. I do not always put the same stuff in there, BUT I always have some fruits, some vegetables, some nuts and seeds, and some super foods.
My favorite foods to use would be apples, oranges, and bananas. I am always using bananas. I am almost always using apples. Sometimes, I will even leave half of the peel on the orange because there is a TON of vitamin c in the orange peel. When you blend it up in this huge smoothie, it actually tastes DELICIOUS.
“Oh, orange peel? Gross!”
It actually works out pretty well! Again, it gives you MASSIVE amounts of nutrition.
I also like to use grapefruit. Grapefruit is WONDERFUL for your body. Sometimes, I use mango or pineapple. Use whatever your favorite fruits are.
Berries: blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries.
There are a million different amazing fruits you could put in there. I generally pick two to three per smoothie.
Now vegetables, this is a GREAT way to get raw, live, protein-rich, dark-leafy, green vegetables into your diet in a way that does not taste bad or require excessive amounts of chewing. My favorite vegetables to put in my green drink would be kale, swiss chard, collard greens, or spinach. All of those are dark, leafy, green vegetables that have a lot of protein and nutrition. They are REALLY good for your body.
The beautiful part is when you blend them up into a smoothie, they taste delicious and you get more vegetables into your diet than you probably do in a whole week. By putting this huge bunch of raw kale into a smoothie, bundling it up with fruits, nuts, and all the stuff, it tastes GREAT.
From the nuts and seeds, I like to use pecans, almonds, walnuts, cashews, and sometimes macadamia nuts. From the seeds, I really like to use pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, and chia seeds.
So, you have your vegetables. You have your fruit. You have your nuts and seeds, and super foods.
Some super foods I really like putting in there, which you can look the nutritional benefits of, would be raw organic cocoa powder or beans and chia seeds. I like to put a super greens mix in there called vita mineral greens. I like to use maca powder and sometimes lucuma powder. Also, another great super food I put in there is cinnamon, and sometimes a little bit of organic vanilla extract.
I put all that in a big, huge blender and blend it on up. If you do not want to spend 400-500 dollars on a vita mix or something super fancy, you could spend a hundred bucks at Target on a Ninja mixer. Those work really well too.
All that nutrition in one blended place, you drink it down. It starts your day off really awesome, lots of high energy. I do it almost EVERY single day.
I have been doing it now for about a year. I LOVE it. It just pumps my body up. It gives me fast, long sustainable energy. This will keep you going throughout the day. And one of the best physical way for injury prevention is to avoid lack of energy!
I hope that has been helpful for all of you who want to know how I make my green drink. Again, there are a million recipes out there so if how I do it does not vibe with you then, go find something that does. But, it is a great way to put lots of nutrition into your day. I hope it helps you.
